Navigating the NDIS with a Dual Diagnosis

Accessing the NDIS with co-occurring ADHD and autism comes with unique challenges. Here's how to build a strong evidence base for your application.

Accessing the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) can be challenging for anyone, but for those with co-occurring ADHD and autism, the process often comes with additional hurdles. Many participants find that their support needs fall between the cracks of traditional service categories.

Building Your Evidence Base

A strong NDIS application starts with comprehensive evidence. For AUDHD individuals, this means ensuring both conditions are documented and that assessments capture how they interact. A report that only addresses autism or only addresses ADHD will likely understate your functional impact.

We recommend working with clinicians who understand the AUDHD profile and can articulate how the combination of both conditions affects your daily life, capacity for work, social participation, and independence. AUDHD Australia is developing resources and provider directories specifically to support this process.
